Des Webb, Paul Mendoza and Louis ArmittThe Mirror Circus is a non-profit making organisation.

Des Webb and Louise Armitt originally founded The Mirror Circus in 1990. Due to Webb’s first hand experiences of the infinite link between the process of learning and creativity, The Mirror Circus studio quickly evolved into a natural educational environment.

Sandra Williams now heads the team as executive producer and since then it has expanded, concentrating much of its energy and resources on using film making as an artistic, creative and education practice.
The company’s main focus of attention is that of the creative welfare of special needs students, and the physically or mentally handicapped.
The Mirror Circus
is now a registered trust.


MISSION STATEMENT


The Mirror Circus
has a vision to use the medium of film and television to empower a wide range of youth, from special needs students to the physically or mentally handicapped.
This vision encompasses a long-term goal, to carefully set up, specially designed film and video facilities within schools across the country.
This will enable the teachers themselves to use the power of filmmaking as a tool for education.

Filmography:

Webb filmography - range from Music videos credits for: Damage, The Stranglers, Big Country as well as Commercials: Orange Communications, G. Star, Time Out magazine (won the 1998 Trade Fair award for Best Commercial)
Current Project: The Corpse Flower Independent British feature
Webb has produced all The Mirror Circus films to date, and his natural aptitude for teaching has been proven through the pioneering work he has undertaken for Mirror Circus.
He has a very personal style of working, using his sensitivity and awareness to ensure that all the students reach their full potential. Webb finished the year 2002 with one of The Mirror Circus’ most audacious films – The Hard hitting dark comedy “Welcome home Dad” a film depicting the negative influences of bad parenting and the importance of responsibility.




PAUL MENDOZA top
Producer

Filmography:

Paul Mendoza has an extensive film background spanning twelve years. An accomplished stills photographer, Mendoza opened his West London studio in 1995, shooting music-based productions for artists ranging from Faith No More to Diana Ross as well as a series of commercials and music videos.
Mendoza went on to produce several film and animation projects, winning the 1998 Zeffer Award for Best Film.
Mendoza has utilized his business and production skills to secure funding for many of The Mirror Circus projects.
Paul's colourful personality was also instrumental in inspiring several film industry sponsors to facilitate the companies early development into this new arena of education.



DARREN FRANCIS top
Film Director

Filmography:

Darren Francis is an accomplished director, with a vast and varied production background.
His experiences in the media range from, film, television and Theatre production. His credits include the BBC, The Box, Saatchi & Saatchi and kiss FM among others. Francis has worked with Janet Jackson, The Spice Girls Westlife, Steps, The Fun Lovin' Criminals, 5ive, Mariah Carey. Commercials & I dents: Will Smith, Lenny Kravitz, Busta Rhymes.

Francis, is a former production technician for the English National Opera and associate producer at M.T.V, a talented writer who has scripted several creative concepts for The Mirror Circus productions.
Darren continually assists in all aspects of production and has a fun and bubbly teaching presence which works considerably well with the students who often engage him in conversation about their favourite pop stars, many of whom he has worked with.



MALIK BASSO

Director of Photography

Filmography:

Award winning Spanish director/cinematographer Malik Basso has a consistent and prestigious body of work.
From his roots in Spain to his work in London, he has proven himself to be one of Europe’s most exciting and innovative cinematographers.
His film debut, which he directed and photographed, was entitled Careless, a film that won the BBC’s influential Talent 2000 Award.

Following this success, Basso went on to direct the acclaimed British/Portuguese co-production Dancing in Jigsaw, a film which explores the life changing potential of seemingly insignificant encounters.

Malik will shoot his first films for The Mirror Circus in February 2003, starting with an anti-drugs movie entitled ‘The Ten Worlds’ for the Victoria City School and another one for Oldfield House exclusion unit in Richmond. Basso has been commissioned to help the productions increase their creative and dramatic potential for 2003 with his principal aim being the artistic quality of the films
Basso has worked with The Mirror circus on their Courses for Special Needs Students for the last year.
He continually writes and develops new and exciting modules designed for students to work and learn at their own pace.
Basso has a calm and patient approach to his teaching tasks.



VIRAL MISTRY top
BA (Hons) – Editor


Filmography:

Mistry’s filmography ranges from the movie “The Haunted Heart” (screened as part of the Edinburgh Film Festival 2000), as well as a host of editors credits.
Mistry
has edited practically all of the films for the Special Needs Courses. He has masterminded a youthful cutting style for his work with the students, bearing in mind the street credibility which underpins these student productions.
Mistry has always proven to be very popular with the students.
He is well versed at teaching how to navigate the complex post production and editing machinery. Mistry is a vital component in the sometimes conveyor belt of student productions, which need to edited in an assured and original fashion on each occasion.




MARCEL GARBI top
Multimedia

The Mirror Circus have hired the services of Marcel Garbi, who was solely responsible for the design of The Mirror Circus web site.
Marcel will work with the students on-line to create dramatic or educational stories, enhanced by story-boards, animations, archive and photographs.
Marcel
has the sensibilities to interpret children’s ideas and turn them into dramatic magic on-line.
